Since 2020, new horse game projects have been popping up left and right. Many of them are still in that early (or even late) stage of development. Some are big, some small, and some are just too good not to talk about. So, here is a list of awesome horse games for you to look forward to!
Equitania
“Bond with your horse, level up, and explore a world full of secrets as you search for your missing sister.”
Coming in at number five, Equitania is probably the most peculiar horse game on the list, but also the most unique. Developed by White Horse Interactive, Equitania is a game about magic, adventure, and the bond between horse and rider. Your goal is to find your sister by restoring balance to this magical world. The only way to do so is by completing races and archery challenges. It’s a game with some tight mechanics set in a fantastical world.
As for breeding—no. There won’t be any breeding or ‘saving the ranch’ here, only a magical world and a skill-based game system. Certainly a breath of fresh air!
Although the game does not boast a wide range of horse breeds, it has an insane horse creator, giving players the chance to paint their horses into true works of art. A playtest has already been released, and so far the response has been very positive.
SpurTrail
“A short story adventure game in development about a young man rescuing a horse and going off into the wilderness to find himself and belonging.”
SpurTrail, developed by Vidunder Games, is a story-driven game with a linear path that focuses not on the number of horses, but on your sole companion. Set in the Scandinavian wilderness, the game takes you through a man’s journey to try and find himself and, of course, rescue horses. The developers promise mini-games, riding challenges, and other NPCs who will fill the world with lore and story.
It breaks away from the beaten path to travel a trail less taken in horse games, and from what we’ve seen so far, it certainly looks like a promising ride.
Horses of Hoofprint Bay

A 2D game developed by Thogli Studios, Horses of Hoofprint Bay was baked and made in the oven of nostalgia, and it works so well.
With lovely hand-drawn animations and artwork, and really addictive gameplay, Horses of Hoofprint Bay landed with a splash when the demo was released in February 2026. In this little game, you can build up your barn, train horses, take care of horses, breed horses, train students, and even more is on the horizon!
Horses can get sick, injured, tired, or grumpy. They also have personalities, which make the gameplay experience deeply engaging and enjoyable. It’s a little game with a lot of heart.
Fernhoof Grove: Riding Academy
“Enroll in Fernhoof Academy to become a professional horse trainer.”
Coming in at number two, we have Fernhoof Grove: Riding Academy, a game that has recently released its early playtest to absolute rave reviews. Following the story of a student enrolling at Fernhoof Academy, you train horses—and that’s really the core of it.
But what makes this game quite special is its attention to detail.
Horses have scratch spots, and you can pick and choose exactly how and what you want to train. It’s something new in horse games, focusing more on gameplay and less on breeding. Horses also have personalities. They can be calm, hot, or just in between. But what makes it extra special is that you can train it out of them! Depending on how you ride and what you train, the horse will change accordingly.
It makes training so much more interesting than just ‘ride until energy is spent’. Of course, you can groom horses, take care of them, and you need to help around the stables by feeding them. It’s a well-rounded game with a ton of potential.
The Legend of Khiimori
The Legend of Khiimori takes the top spot for its size, scope, and overall beauty. Set in 13th-century Mongolia, The Legend of Khiimori lets the player take the reins as a courier. It’s your job to create links between these settlements and build up good reputations.
Your horse is both your companion and your transport. You need to balance your load, keep them happy and groomed, and make sure they aren’t ridden too hard, lest you have a limping friend for the rest of the journey. Leaning into that realism, The Legend of Khiimori aims to make you really feel like you are taking a long journey.
As you explore, you will come across bears, wolves, and other wild animals—dangers that you will need to fend off with crafted items or your trusty bow. It’s a game that is vast and epic in its reach and is currently available in early access. But be warned: bugs and glitches are quite common. Players have reported some concerns with the early access, but overall, the reception has been positive.
The Legend of Khiimori is the biggest horse game currently in development, and its full release is highly anticipated.
