UPDATE: Astride makes slow progress with quests

Astride‘s development is still moving along; they have now announced that they are working on story and quests. But the development pace is still relatively slow compared to other projects.

On June 4, Astride‘s devlog dove into their upcoming planned quests, which have been a long-sought-after feature. They are hoping to implement a system that allows for these quests to generate ad infinitum. For example, specific breed requests or training requests. These will randomise, giving players something new to do everyday.

This system is still in very early planning, and they make it clear that actual programming has not begun yet.

On July 2, they expanded on story and quest features, saying they have managed to plan out parts of the main story and side quests, and are now in the process of working to implement these ideas alongside development.

Although players are happy to see the Astride team still moving forward with the project, the snail’s pace is concerning. The game was released into early access in June 2023, meaning they have had at least a three-year development cycle. Comparing the poor early access launch to the current version, one can certainly see the game has grown, but it is still a far cry from the product that the team promised.

The development team also discussed updating models, creating new items, and generally improving the game.

Astride is a multiplayer game set in Scandinavia.
